Dress In Australia

Most Australians do not like to focus too much on formal wear.  They are not strong in 'pomp and ceremony'.  They prefer to do things in a more relaxed manner.  Australians never care about clothes, all they think about is comfort.  You could say this stems from the fact that the first European settlements in Australia were convicted colonies.  Because of this, Australians have always had less respect for authority than European countries, including Great Britain, where most of our first migrants came from.  This is not to say that Australians are never serious or formal, but, on balance, they are more relaxed in our approach to life.

 Examples of Australian casual dress:

If it's a hot summer day, they are more comfortable wearing shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, and hats.  On a hot summer day, it would be considered okay to go to a restaurant, go to the movies, go to the barbeque, go see your parents or grandparents, go shopping in the city or go anywhere outdoors and also to most of the place indoors.  If the weather is cold, then jeans and casual shoes (or runners) are basic clothing plus maybe a jumper or pullover.

 Examples of formal Australian dress:

Australian people seem to have a relaxed life and are more comfortable wearing casual clothes, but they can also position themselves when and where to dress formally.  Such as the types of clothes or dresses used at special events such as weddings, dinners, and other types of work events.  Examples of formal wear include suits, tuxedos, evening gowns or dresses, high heels, and loafers.

    1. At the traditional funeral most Australians are familiar with, it is respectful to wear smart, well-pressed clothes in a dark colour. Black has long been typically worn by mourners at a traditional funeral, but dark shades such as navy or grey are also appropriate. A smart work suit or outfit is usually acceptable.
